andrew_westermann He shouldn’t have to ask this question...
There’s so many things I want to say but it’s not my place at this point in time. As a white man it is my job to listen, educate myself and amplify the voices of black people and people of color that have been oppressed for too long.
There are so many things you can be doing right now. And it doesn’t matter if you are in America or anywhere else in the world. Racism is everywhere and if it doesn’t end everywhere it doesn’t end at all.
The next slides contain films and books which you can watch and read to further educate yourself on the history of systemic racism.
Furthermore there is a list of organizations for which you can sign petitions and/or donate money. You will find the link to these in my bio.
To the black community and poc I am with you and love you dearly. I would not be me without you!
To my non black friends and family: let us do better!
andrew_westermann I fight with the fact that I am of the same skin color as the cowards that took the life of Ahmaud and whether I have the right to say anything. I am ashamed to be white at this point in time. I am British and German and spent most of my childhood in America. All countries which have been plagued by racism. But what we are witnessing today is a new kind. How can this still be happening? Ahmaud should not be a hashtag on your social media. He should be alive and with his family and friends. Pursuing his dreams. The dreams that we (and with we I mean white people) are privileged to dream without fear of being brutally attacked due to our skin color. Privilege should not be of any race or color. Life is a privilege . And who are you to take that privilege from another person. It is sickening, shameful and inhuman. Stop abusing your privilege and keeping your mouth shut. Make a change and raise your voice.
