haileybieber Happy Women’s History Month! My name is @ValarieKaur . I’m a civil rights leader, lawyer, faith leader, and the author of a new book called #SeeNoStranger . I am so excited for you to read my book! I share my life journey -- stories of police brutality, hate violence, sexual assault and deep healing. All along, I searched for how to change the world. Then I found it. The answer surprised me:
I used to roll my eyes when people said “love is the answer.” But the problem is not with love but with the way we talk about it. Love is not something we just feel. Love is something we DO. Love is sweet labor -- fierce, bloody, imperfect, life-giving, choice we make. When we love without limit -- love becomes revolutionary. It can change the world around us -- and inside us.
I believe Revolutionary Love is the call of our times.
#1 The world is in transition. The crises we face -- the pandemic, climate disasters, assaults on our democracy, white supremacy -- are signs that our nation is in transition. The old way of being is dying. A new world wants to be born. How do we birth that world?
#2 Each of us has a role. YOU have a role. We need more than good government. We need a shift in culture and consciousness. A revolution of the heart. We can build the beloved community where we are. But only if we --
#3 Practice love -- love without limit. Revolutionary love is when we are brave enough to “see no stranger” -- to let everyone inside our circle of care. It is the choice to labor for others, for our opponents, and for ourselves. It’s powerful and joyful and sets us free.
Are you ready to bring revolutionary love into your life?

haileybieber Today’s takeover is Amber Goodwin!
Howdy, y’all! My name is Amber Goodwin (she/her/hers). I am a Black woman, future lawyer (Mitchell Hamline Class of 2021), Texan, organizer, dog lover, and founder of the Community Justice Action Fund (CJAF). I’m so excited to be here and am grateful to Hailey for her continued support of our work.
I split my time between helping to create new legal solutions as a 3L law student and building power everyday
for Black women, our families, and our communities to end gun violence by advancing policy, and changing the narrative around gun violence. I started CJAF almost 5 years ago to help fill a policy gap between what was happening in our communities everyday, the news, and policy makers. We didn’t just need a seat at a table, we needed to create our own space. For far too long Black people, and in particular women, our families, and our communities have been left out of courtrooms, Congress, the White House, and noticeably in the debate on gun laws. We are working with local, state, and federal community leaders to change that.
Every day, gun violence kills almost 100 people just in America, and a disproportionate number of those people are Black. This women’s history month, I hope you will learn not only about our work, but the work of incredible women, mothers, sisters, daughters and friends who have been directly affected by this public health crisis.
I also hope many more advocates join the field of law to tackle many complex issues like gun violence. Black women are only 2% of lawyers in America, and we are rarely in the halls of law schools. Check out innovative programs like @MitchellHamline where I serve as the school’s first Black Student Bar Association President!
I can’t wait to show you a bit of our journey and highlight our partners at CJAF for Women’s History Month.
