j 3mo and 37,469mi of late summer/early fall across Asia Europe + the Middle East. Took an extended leave from work, moved out of my apartment (lease was up; didn’t know if I wanted to stay in SF or not), packed a carry-on + an absurdly big backpack (see above), and booked SFO/HKG one-way with no plans: wake up and go/do whatever feels right.
Wake up in Mumbai wanting pasta: fly to Rome that night. Rebook my Doha connection to Heathrow to see friends in London. Sweating in Oman? Denmark tomorrow. Singapore day trip for a friend’s military graduation.
Back in HK now, enjoying 82 degree “fall weather” on Po Toi Island. This is a stupidly and totally untenable way to live.
j Pretty incredible to see the pro-democracy + anti-CCP protests in person over the past week leading up to the 70th anniversary of the People‘s Republic of China yesterday. Photos really don’t do the size or importance of them justice and talking with some of the protestors—young as 12—has been eye-opening. I can also cross “get teargassed” and “run from a water cannon” off my bucket list. #standwithhk
